FNB has celebrated 8 years of successfully developing and nurturing young, gifted football playing boys and girls from grassroots level to u/13 and u/15, through its FNB Football First Programme. FNB introduced the FNB Football First Programme to all the venues by appointing three coaches to each pitch. Since then, the coaches have been hosting development clinics and training sessions. A total of 23 438 boys and girls participated in the 2011 FNB Legacy programme that included 397 football clinics, 10 football festivals and life skills programmes in every region.
Since its inception in 2011, the programme has attracted over 29 000 young football players each year, from 39 schools across five regions, Thohoyandou, George, Mthatha, Pietermaritzburg and Kimberley, every year. These young, aspiring football enthusiasts are trained on artificial pitches specially created for the programme and the programme comprises 660 coaching clinics that run for 44 weeks, with each region completing an average of 132 sessions a year.
Each year, the FNB Football First Programme selects the best players from regional tournaments to represent their region during an annual festival held in Johannesburg, where scouts have the opportunity to identify talented player. FNB's proud heritage of supporting youth sport lives on through the FNB Football Festival. FNB believes that this platform is essential to the involvement of young children in sport. If FNB manages to produce quality players for our national teams and leave others with fond memories, we would have succeeded.
